During our meeting today, I mentioned how much the church today emphasizes worship and specifically what makes up the music portion of a Sunday morning. Those who have been in the church for a while understand how volatile this topic is and at times how divisive.

One of the goals of worship arts is to allow people to use the gifts we’ve been given to express our gratitude to our Savior. This means more than singing and music. George has a much clearer vision of what this looks like and it is exciting to see folks use their gifts in praise and worship.

I believe that if we are going to put in time and energy into worship arts it must have a greater impact than simply giving us a nice experience on a Sunday morning. So in as part of an effort to make worship extend to our lives throughout the week, the worship arts committee will try and raise the issues around worship here. Most posts will not be seen on the frontpage of the website. If you want to read more, click on the Worship Arts category listing. Whether you’re directly involved in this ministry, we’d love everyone to read and comment on the posts around worship. We may not always agree but part of being in a church family is dealing with difficult issues.

I’ll leave you with a blog I’ve been reading lately called Worship Matters. This post in particular deals with the songs of lament which are often ones we avoid for various reasons. Anyway, let’s understand that worship does matter but only if we let it occur more than just on Sunday morning.
